IIRC SABRE does offer some type of free training for new TAs ... I know that there's a training manual, but there might also be an actual seminar in your area.
Would also be interested. Many of the books I have read / sites I have been to explain that you don't need a travel agents license to start a business, you can just start it up... however they fail to mention how you make any money without access to a GDS program
