And the point is that AA does not offer miles for many of its cheapest international fares. Period. You're welcome to fly any of those other airlines. (But don't even think of flying BA -- you can't even join their FF program unless you take an expensive flight, or something like that).

Or, call Travelocity and ask if they will upsell you to a slightly higher fare class that will earn AA miles. As long as it's not "Q" or "O" (internationally) you'll be okay.
