The customs searches are done by X-raying your bags and are primarily concerned with preventing you from bringing liquor into the countries. I've never seen them even look for anything else.
They are also looking for drugs and pornography.
This is how I lost my DVD "Pretty Woman". And yes, the one starring Julia Roberts. My assumption was the customs official hadn't seen that one yet, but already had my certainly more provocative "Basic Instinct" DVD.
I do believe that any product with "Made in Israel" on it may not be imported into Saudi Arabia from a legal standpoint. However the term "legal system" here seems to be pretty arbitrary.
