With the onset of the holidays and all of the additional baggage associated therewith, I would guess that this is a timely and necessary procedure--particularly given the increased numbers of non-frequent, gift-bearing, stuffed-baggaged PAXs during what is sure to be a record domestic travel period for all of the airlines.
