All I know is that my daughter's carseat won't fit through a sizer. I haven't had to deal with that, but if I buy her a spot on the plane, bring my own car seat, and have them reject me, there's going to be trouble.
Just make sure there is a sticker on the car seat that says it is FAA approved.
Car seats are not part of the carry on calculation.
