I would stick to United, unless you plan to connect to just about everywhere vs. a non-stop out of IAD. I think that I would have to live near DFW, SJC, LAX, MIA, ORD or STL to go with AA exclusively.
I used to live in DC and hated IAD. The typical wait to get through security and the mobile lounges have made me avoid IAD at all costs.
