How does one go about reserving seat 7D on MD-80's. The platinum desk told me it is not offered on AA.com when you book your flights and it is reserved for handicapped or young passengers traveling alone. Assuming none of those are on the flights who gets that seat...and how.
Thanks in advance

Had the same problem trying to get seat for an award ticket DFW-EWR. Row 7 & 8 are blocked for airport check in so as to remain available until the last day in case they are needed for people needing assistance. If you need to have someone assisted with the aisle chair, it is best to go as short a distance as possible.
To get the seat released, the desk (imaginary or not) cannot do it. You would need to be at the airport 24 hours (or less) in advance and then a gate agent or check in agent can get you those seats. I had come in on a flight the night before, and when I arrived at DFW, asked and they printed me a boarding pass, didn't need to check in the next day, already done!
Or, you could be a sleezball and tell AA you need wheelchair assistance and they will assign you that row in advance, but should you do that the flying gods will scorn on you for it!
Cheers
