Newbie here. I did a thorough search to try and find this but was unsuccessful.

How does one go about reserving seat 7D on MD-80's. The platinum desk told me it is not offered on AA.com when you book your flights and it is reserved for handicapped or young passengers traveling alone. Assuming none of those are on the flights who gets that seat...and how.
