Australian citizen Vivian Alvarez was today [18 Nov] returned to Sydney following an immigration bungle which saw her mistakenly deported to the Philippines. Ms Alvarez was deported in July 2001, following a serious car accident. She was discovered in May this year living in a Catholic hospice near Manila. Australian Prime Minister John Howard has said he has no plans to offer her a face-to-face apology.
