In the recent chat with the NW program manager Russ Hinckley there was an implication that NW was going to be looking for some enhancements here:

Any chance of enhancing the experience with Alaska codeshare connections? (e.g. using their elite check in when starting a trip with an AS connector?

I guess if one of the partners was going to go with this it would probably be NW since they have the limited upgrade exchange for elites.
