This is an issue with the US-China trade relationship. CO can't buy socks in China, and I'm assuming that the kits are assembled/made there. So CO can't include the socks on the flight. On my recent trip to LGW the Grey Coat handed them out on request.
I always fly in my flannel pj pants when I'm going overnight. Way more comfortable than my slacks that I am normally wearing. Add in a nice pair of comfy socks (my fiancee knitted me a nice pair) and I'm the most comfortable guy on the plane
