I use it in Chicago and it will reroute me if I chose to. So far it doesn't look like a "tweak and refine" system, it just works all the time. The subcription at the moment is free and TomTom are a little vague about how and when they will start charging for it. The information comes through the Internet and uses Bluetooth to download off my mobile phone.
