IIRC (but this is off the top of my head), the ET would probably have had a better result if the hijackers hadn't been interfering with the controls all the way down to the surface.

And ISTR that the JL that landed in Tokyo Bay was flown there by a skipper who had some psychological problems - if it's the one I'm thinking of, there was what would now be called a CRM failure, as the rest of the crew just sat there watching him do it without doing anything.

Lake Victoria sees a number of "water landings", usually by cargo aircraft. There's a sense of deja vu every time another I read of another one ending up in the lake. I think there were two in the first half of this year, very close together.

And the honourable runner-up prize must go to the Air Transat crew which would have ditched in the middle of the Atlantic had it not been for the fortuitous presence of an Azore near where they were at the time.
