Problems consolidating 2 Delta accounts
I've decided to post a recent SkyMiles headache to see if you masters have any advice or suggestions. Here goes:
I created a SkyMiles account via Delta's web site back in May in preparation for a business trip to Europe. In an attempt to book a family trip for several family members this coming weekend, I discovered that my old Frequent Flyer account still existed (I made this discovery in early August, after the Europe trip). Since Delta requires travel at least once in a 3 year period for SkyMiles, I had assumed back in May that my old FF account had been deleted, therefore I created the new SM account.
In early August I sent a fax to the SkyMiles Service Center requesting that they transfer the 9000 miles in the FF account to the newer SM account. On August 25, the SM people deleted my *newer* account and transfered all the miles to the original FF account! To make matters worse, my name on the original FF account was in the form: middle-name last-name (back in my school days I never went by my full name), and my new SM account was in the form: first-name middle-initial last-name (when I did the free registration for the newer SM account it didn't pick this up as a duplication).
Their transfer has the following negative effects:
1) Amex/Delta SM credit card had to be linked to the older FF number. Will the lack of having an exact name match on the accounts affect SM credit to the older FF number?
2) My Labor Day trip is linked to the (now deleted) newer SM account, and so were the 1000 bonus miles for booking via SkyLinks.
3) I still need to change my SM Dining to older FF number.
What I've done: I sent another fax on August 26 to the SM Service Center informing them of the problems they created (of course they didn't even warn me that they would do it this way, despite my giving them multiple means of contacting me on the original request). In this second fax I requested that they change my account name to the way it appeared on the deleted SM account. I also warned them about the upcoming Labor Day trip in the hope they could change the SM number on my booking so the system would credit me appropriately. I don't know if they've gotten around to this second fax yet.
My questions to you:
1) Will the change in SM numbers make it difficult for me to get on the plane this Saturday with my E-Ticket, or should there be no problems?
2) Should I call Delta before the trip and request some action from someone, call after the flights, or do nothing at all?
Thank you for your suggestions.
