Remember that the only additional award availability for QF members is the availability of T class for SG and above on QF flights.
AFAIK, U award availability on CX flghts - and BA flights, for that matter - is available to all other OW carriers. So an award J seat on CX will be available to both QF and CX FF's, with each airline determining how much they will charge their members.
So whilst QF may have bugger all J class seats to LHR from SYD, BA and CX might have some, also QF to SIN and AY to LHR (via HEL), or whatever else is thrown up.
Sure, QF might be extremely stingy with their award flights, but QF is not the only burn option available - and I am speaking with the experience, all of my INT redemtions have been on carriers other than QF (apart from upgrades, that is) - they are relatively easy to come by.
