If you were amazingly fortunate to survive a ditching, the crew member allocated to that door is responsible for detaching the slide. As you were going to DEN, I imagine you were on a 777.

There are instructions on how to detach the slideraft from the aircraft. These are written at the top of the slideraft, where it meets the fuselage. Basically, once everyone is aboard, you lift the flap and pull the end of the 'string'. This action detaches the raft, but you are still attached to the aircraft with a mooring line. There is a knife on the raft, or there is also a weak link which you can pull. Also attached to the raft are bungs for stopping leaks, and a survival pack. These contain barley sugars, sachets of drinking water, day and night flares, flare guns, mirrors (for attracting attention - too small to do your face with ), water activated torches etc etc. we also carry emergency transmitters which transmit on all the emergency channels for 48 hours.

The crew are all trained in the operation of all the above, and this is included in our annual refresher too. Hope that is of interest to you.

There are no instructions on the demo, as it gets quite involved, and sadly, the majority of people wouldn't watch anyway.
