As noted, E and U came into existance* with TED for their unrestricted fares bases (the equivalent of UA's Y and B).

Since then, they are appearing on non-TED routes (as both restricted and unrestricted fares), and routes that connect via TED.

* - E used to be the special 1K Economy Award before TED
