I'm sure there's a discussion of this topic in the Buenos Aires master thread, but on a quick search I did not find this question discussed:

I'll be in Argentina from Friday morning 2/10/06 till Monday night 2/13/06. Is it worth it to rent a car for this visit? I've never been to South America before, but I feel confident driving almost anywhere. It's fairly expensive (at least from Avis), and I don't know whether it's worth dealing with traffic and parking, as compared with just taking cabs or other public transports.

On a related note, should I spend these 3 days in Buenos Aires alone, or should I attempt a whirlwind 2 day trip to Patagonia?
