I've been to CLT a lot in the past year on UA. That rush towards the last flight of the evening does get interesting when there are irregular ops. UA only has two jetbridges and one CRJ spot. Depending upon who is late coming in (or leaving), the gate assignments can change. But, you only have one gate room and you can usually hear all of the announcements even if you sit across the hall at Delta. The bad part is that if you go down to the bar or run to get something to eat, you'll likely miss the announcements. Also, this is one of the places where changing ground holds for ORD or IAD can hose you good. I was there one night when our "wheels up" time on that last flight was moved out to something like 8:30pm. At 6:30 they told people it was ok to go get a quick bite to eat, but be aware of changing times. As it turned out, we boarded about 7:15, left the gate by 7:40, and were off the ground before 8:00. I'm pretty sure people didn't take the advice of a quick bite to eat and missed the flight.

The observation is correct about the signs. They are the old LED signs and need to be manually updated. One of the problems at CLT is that irregular ops affecting the IAD and ORD flights means that the GAs have their hands full with rebooking tight connections. They are magicians sometimes and will do their darnedest to get people home. I watched them rebook a young lady who was supposed to be going CLT-ORD-DTW. They got her on NW direct, then had someone dig out her bag and run it (literally) over to NW.

By and large, my experience with the UA folks at CLT has been very positive. They work as a team and seem to really have a customer service focus.
