Another option is to use file synchronization tools to make sure that you always have a backup copy somewhere else. I've used two software apps successfully.
Microsoft has a PowerToy, available for free, that can be used to sync up things like flash drives with a laptop or desktop. Here's a white paper on

Another product that I use for file synchronization while traveling is
FolderShare. The nice thing is that it works for both Windows and OS X. It works behind the scenes and doesn't require as much user interaction as SyncToy. The downside is that to really use it's functionality you have to pay. Second possible downside is that it was just bought by Microsoft last week. Word on the street is MS intends to add FolderShare's technolgy into it's next generation Windows product.
