And countries have rules which suit their own purposes. When I lived in Singapore, it was very well known amongst the ex-pat community that Indonesia had a six-month rule. Some countries are three months. Others only require a valid passport on the day you arrive. Travellers simply have to deal with it. In the internet age it is sooooo easy to verify passport/visa requirements, that there is no excuse for not doing it.
