I think the ones that they cancelled are ones that they didn't reconfirm and hence can fall under their terms of a pricing error.
The ones that they reconfirmed, they know that there are legal ramifications of not honouring them. So if they cancelled you it was because it wasn't reconfirmed or they felt that you had so many days that it was worth it to fight it in court. Now I could be completely wrong, but there seems to be a trend of people have been cancelled that didn't reconfirm/get that reaffirmation from Expedia/Hilton.
Some that reconfirmed they tried to buy out with coupons holding to the fact it was going to be cancelled, like the lady told me today, it was GOING to be cancelled (yet it hadn't been yet), and then they have a small group where the wording in the emails was probably done to a point they know they had to honour them and that's that.
I think that this sucks for everyone on here, including Expedia and Hilton and if they were smart when they realized the mistake on Saturday a company wide email should have gone out saying ANYONE asking about itineraries booked at the Hilton Tokyo/Osaka should get an email back saying we cannot reconfirm at this time as we are looking into the situation and a pricing error might have occured. This didn't happen, and partly because they have that 4 hour rule to get back to people, there was probably a rush to respond in a timely manner OR someone up top dropped the ball because it happened on a Saturday.
Will I book with Expedia again... maybe, but if I do book do you think that I will immediately send an email to ask them if they are planning on honouring it.. well YOU BET!
