This actually happened to us at Gatwick when my son was 12. He had a toy gun acquired at my cousin's shop in Czech which was of no interest in Prague or Heathrow immigration but when he admitted to having it at Gatwick and not wanting to trash it, we were escorted to a special area where everything of ours was x-rayed and hand-searched and required to be checked through. We just ship such things home now; sometimes they even arrive.
