It's not a bad start if you're starting with an English answer. Unsure though of the academic value of such tools.
I've used babelfish in the past and it's somewhat helpful, but not always accurate. If you type in a whole sentences to translate, sometimes you get things that don't really make sense (it can be kind of funny, though!).
