Do I get these benefits if I purchase it from the airline directly (for example aa.com)? I think I saw somewhere that the answer is yes.

Is there a minimum ticket price?

If for example my father would have such a card, would he be able to purchase a ticket for me, and my brother would be able to use the companion ticket?

Thank You.

Aside point - I know that sometimes the citibank chairmans card gets it 1st year annual fee waived. Does this ever happen with the Amex Plat?
Normally you can book the tickets through AmEx, but it is only for full-fare businessclass tickets. So mostly it is cheaper to buy two low-fare businessclass tickets than take this AmEx offer.
