It is a little ironic that victims of Katrina who were staying at hotels were subject to eviction because of "confirmed reservations". Now, they are kicking out confirmed reservations in order to house workers.

I have a feeling that the workers are paying rack rate plus thereby making for more profit for the property.

You can (and should) complain to the local management as well as Marriott corporate. You might get some token compensation and they might even get their franchise yanked, but they get to walk away with the money - short term at least.
