Maybe, but I'm guessing there's some kind of out that would deal with weather related disasters. Otherwise, all the folks booked into New Orleans while the hotels were shutdown, could also theoretically put in for a guarantee claim. This isn't exactly the same, but similar.

Also this from the terms and conditions: "If an Elite member has a confirmed reservation, but is walked from the hotel upon arrival, the property will pay the Ultimate Reservation Guarantee compensation in place today under the Marriott Rewards program Terms and Conditions." Sounds like you have to arrive at the hotel before utilizing the guarantee.
