The props aren't going anywhere -- in the long run, NW will contract a carrier to operate prop flights on its behalf. If anything, we'll likely see MORE prop flights in the future.

1.) Do you think NW will buy 70-100 seat RJ's for this purpose?
2.) Is this enough different than Ted/Song it could work?
3.) Could this enterprise work with DC-9's? Obviously, if so, much better than FC-less RJ's.
4.) Does anyone else think the name for this spinoff "Newco" is awful??
1) It'll likely be EMB-17X/19X - these are mainline jets, not regional jets.
2) Yes. It'll be standard NW service - the only "low-cost" element (not found on mainline) will be the low wages paid to crew.
3) No. The purpose is to replace the gas-guzzling DC-9 with more efficient jets - hence the EMB 17X/19X.
4) NW's also proposed moving all ramp operations outside DTW and MSP to a new company called "Rampco."
