There is no reason for us to each have one. Does this make sense to have two? If we both earned toward one, we would be able to reach a different status, right? Or would it only entitle ONE of use (i.e. platinum member benefits, such as airprt lounges, etc) the benefits?

Unless you are GLD, PLT, or EXP, you are limited to earning 60,000 miles/year per Advantage Account. In addition, you can not reach yearly elite levels with a credit card (no matter how much you charge). The only time when a credit card can help you with elite status is with lifetime status (where everything counts)
