Online Checkin and Missed Flight

Hi,

I had scheduled a quick business trip for a client meeting; ticket was fully refundable. I was scheduled to leave last Thursday. I checked in online Wed. morning.

Wed. evening I found out that a close relative had passed away and so I decided to cancel my business trip.

I called the elite line, told them I wasn't going to make the flight the next morning.

While sympathetic, the agent told me that by checking in, the ticket was considered used, and I could only get a refund on the return portion of the flight.

Does that make sense? If that's the policy, sure was extremely poor customer service...

I'm not very happy with Continental at this point.
