This is the reason that I attaing PLATINUM every year. I find that status does open award seats up as the people in the US office will email MEL office and more often than not they will open up a bus or first award seat for me.....
I am Platinum on AA, which of course isn't quite the same as EXP or whatever the top tier is on QF. No one at AAdvantage offered to email QF about opening up a seat for me.
