Nothing happened; it was business travel last winter. I just arrived 4 hours late, missed my afternoon meetings, and worked late into the night. I didn't bother calling for a refund. In fact, the problem was beyond NWA's control, since it's the airport's crew that plows the runways. I was more upset at the CID airport than NWA, because they *KNOW* they have 5am flights scheduled (on 2-3 carriers), and they decided to sleep in and not bother to plow until 6am. It had stopped snowing by 3am the night before, so it wasn't like they were plowing all night and just getting more snow dumped on them -- they just didn't bother to start early enough.

So is that a "weather" delay? I don't think so, but I'm sure the airport would classify it as such. I've found that 99.9% of the time if I ask why a flight is delayed, I'm told "weather" -- but if you ask enough people sometimes you'll find out the real reason. Also about half the time nobody can tell you WHAT weather caused the delay. I honestly get the feeling that airlines are just saying "weather" because it's this bit amorphous excuse that can't be proven and gets them off the hook for providing any sort of compensation.
