We walked to either Action or Coxx each night and then took a taxi back to the hotel. As previously mentioned, do watch out for dishonest taxi drivers. We got one on our first night and paid 3500 HUF to get back from the bar. We questioned the front desk clerk about how much we were charged...he felt it was reasonable....BullS***...it cost 1200-1400 HUF on all future trips.
Have a great trip...it's a nice city...and i'm sure you'll have some sleazy fun at Action

We too stayed at the Art Hotel last year and didn't mind the location at all (and it was bad weather in Feb!). Generally we walked over the river in the evening and got a taxi home later.
There are some great restaurants and bars (non gay) for more glamorous food and drink (I can't remember the names but one was a man's name and the other meant "canteen" in Hungarian) We also went to Action which was fun and funny in equal measures. The baths are amazing. Gellert is beautiful but touristy (understandably) and the Kiraly was surreal. You were supposed to wear swimming costumes but no-one did. There were about 200 naked men in a medaeval setting - and not all fat old men by any stretch. Lots of naughtiness going on for those who wanted it. But I've heard there was a scandal there later in the year and nudity was banned - though more recent visitors might say that has changed. It's a great city. Enjoy!
