Just returned from a vacation/mileage run and once again I'm reminded that Asia really is a huge "plus" in the UA book. Especially pleasant were our inter-Asian flights, NRT-SIN, SIN-HKG and HKG-NRT. All were above average, based on great seats on 744s (row 16) and crews that were not only competent but also friendly and actually made that elusive personal connection that is so lacking on the Transpacific routes.

The Transpacific flights we took (SFO-NRT and NRT-JFK) were pretty much average (a few outstanding crew members, mostly the usual worker bees), while three p.s segements were 2/3 outstanding, one sort of ho-hum (and this was in F with a cabin only filled 7 out of 12). I thought I'd never walk off a UA flight with a bottle of wine again, but I was proven wrong!
