I think this was unprofessional on the part of the Captain to mention this to the passengers during the flight. He then indicated we were running out of fuel and we had to go to PVD to refuel and would then return to BOS to land. Doesn't this seem strange? I thought they loaded enough fuel on the plane to accomodate unexpected events.
When we arrived in PVD the local Delta representative denied that our plane was almost involved in a near collision and indicated the reason we went to PVD was because it was too foggy to land in BOS. The only problem with that story is that we were the only Delta flight diverted to another airport that evening.
This whole situation caused a delay of nearly three hours. Should I complain to Delta and if so, should I expect anything from them in return?
First, I applaud the pilot for being up-front with the passengers. Most passengers ARE adults and CAN handle the truth. I've no idea why the ground staff at PVD told you something different, but then I have no idea why you would ask the ground staff what happened AFTER the pilot already explained the situation to you.
Did you suffer any loss or damage resulting from the three-hour delay? Yes, delays can be inconvenient, but if you travel frequently, you should know by now that they happen. It seems tacky to go chasing after a bankrupt airline for money if you really haven't suffered any loss.
