what is the best way to transfer miles

I have 18,000 miles in Miles and More program. How often do the miles expire?
What is the best way to transfer the miles to another account holder(like donation) within Miles and More program?
If I cannot transfer the miles, can anyone suggest how and what I can redeem for the miles.
