Well silly me, I just THOUGHT AA would be true to their word. Been over a month now, and what a surprise, no check. I called them on 11/3, and this time talk to a supervisor, who informs me that the person who had been working on the matter "was out on medical leave". I'm not sure why this is important, or why she chose to share this with me.

Anyway they act puzzled and can't understand why I had not received the check yet, but assured me they would "email accounting and get it straightened out, and call me back". Well it's been a few days and no calls from American.

The supervisor also made it clear that there was quite a bit of documentation in the file on this matter, as she complained about how much she had to read as she was talking to me. I think she is ideally suited to be a Customer Relations Supervisor at American with this type of telephone demeaner.

At least we have progress, they have left the denial stage, they are now actually refering to this situation as an involuntary bump, and they have agreed to pay the money. The problem now must be the person who was taking care of the situation who is on medical leave. I guess when she is gone no checks can be written, and it appears that they also can't return phone calls, as again perhaps this person who is out is the only one who can operate the phone to make return phone calls.

I'm starting to wonder if I should short AMR stock, as if they put up so much of a fight to pay $400, money must be a lot tighter there than I ever dreamed.

And as someone mentioned earlier if there are any reporters that would like to do a story on this, I would love to chat with them.

If this is how American takes care of situations clearly outlined in their Contract of Carriage, I shudder to think how they react when things are not so black and white. I guess most people would have given up by now, but it just amazes me how brazen American is in disregarding their own rules. Wish I could sonewall like this and get away with it when I am gigged with a $100 change fee on a ticket.
