My limited experience is that it depends on the airlines. Ever fly Thai Airways? The service is superior to UA almost any day. But let's not limit it to the airlines industry. Living and working in Asia for seven years back in the 80s made me a believer in customer service as is practiced in Japan, Thailand, Singapore (with the exception of Korea).
