A Thai friend and I will be going to Chiang Mai for a three-day
weekend, and wanted to try to get to Doi Inthanon. In your
report, it sounds as though you drove yourself.

Lacking our own transportation, do you have a recommendation
on how best to do it in a day? Public transport, tour, hiring
a car and driver?

Thanks for pointers and advice!
Hi Gary,

Just came back last night from Doi Inthanon for 3 days 2 nights of bird watching. I took more video as it was nice and clear at the summit this time as we were above the clouds. I will try to get it posted today. It will be http://www.all-thailand-exp.com/images/DI2.wmv

Anyway if you can try to go on a weekday as on weekends it is crowded with Thai tourist from Chiang Mai and Bangkok. They start arriving around noon on Friday and depart early afternoon on Sunday.

Hiring a car and driver with a guide would be best. Contact me via my Flyer Talk Email and we will try to help you. Another alternative is to rent a vehicle and drive yourself. It will take you many hours and changes by public transportation.
