About taking cabs in Budapest

It was August however, and the weather was beautiful...I might have a different opinion if I was visiting in November.

We walked to either Action or Coxx each night and then took a taxi back to the hotel. As previously mentioned, do watch out for dishonest taxi drivers. We got one on our first night and paid 3500 HUF to get back from the bar. We questioned the front desk clerk about how much we were charged...he felt it was reasonable....BullS***...it cost 1200-1400 HUF on all future trips.

Have a great trip...it's a nice city...and i'm sure you'll have some sleazy fun at Action
Unlike in the States, it is always cheaper here to phone a taxi rather than hail one in the street. Even if you're staying in a hotel, I would never let them flag a cab for me; hotels always seem to defend the rip-off charges of unscrupulous cabbies here.

This also holds true at the airport. I'm not talking about the gypsy cabs. Even the official taxis in the taxi rank at the airport will charge you double. When you arrive, just get on your mobile and call a cab. What's the difference in the fare? From the airport to the center of town, about 3500 HUF vs 6000 HUF.

(My favorite company is Taxi 2000. tel: 2 000 000) They have drivers waiting at the edge of the airport and will whip up to the terminal in a minute or two. Same story at your hotel. Or anywhere else in town. Fast. Reliable. Drivers may not speak much English but the dispatcher almost always will.
