I just purchased a weekend trip from PDX with stop in SFO and NRT and I'll probably spend a day in Makati area (Peninsula and Shangri-la rates are quite reasonable) and that should be quite a good weekend while earning miles on UA and probably miles to AA for the JAL segment.

Manila is indeed chaotic, but it also can be a lot of fun.
