I had to deal with LH twice in the past for damaged checked luggage. I had to provide a statement from a store that the suitcase couldn't repair, which was no problem because they were happy to sell a new one.
LH will reimburse you but will deduct 10% for every year since you purchase the suitcase.
So you should expect 80-90% of the price you paid.
