Most Pest hotels - that means all the ones you mentioned save the Art'Otel and the Gellért - are close enough to walk to the bulk of interesting dining, museums, shopping, and gay nightlife. That said, Le Meridien is smack on top of the underground's only transfer point, where all three lines cross. It's a handsome building that someone told me used to be a police headquarters.
Wow--great information! So it looks like the Le Meridien is centrally located. I will check prices at the Mercure, and my other choice will be the Four Seasons.
How long (time-wise for a quick to average-speed walker) would it take to walk from, say, the Four Seasons or the Le Meridien to the pedestrian shopping street and/or the Action Bar? With just a few days on the ground, I like being in a place where I can walk around and take in the feel of a place, rather than being all over the place on public transport.
