I have not joined the goldpoints program myself, but my feeling (from what I've read and heard) is that it is a program that nobody really wants.
Radisson already had a bonus program through Eurobonus, and from what I've heard the recognition and the benefits used to be really good a few years ago, many hotels gave fruit baskets and welcome letters to EBGs just for being EBG and staying at the hotel.
EBG was really equivalent to Radisson gold.
I have an old SAS timetable at home from the mid-90s and back then if you were flying to LHR and staying at Radisson Portman you could actually check-in in the arrivals hall at the airport and have your luggage sent to the hotel, free of charge of course.
But as pretty much all other hotel chains had their own loyalty programs Radisson (or rather the management of Radisson) felt obliged to implement one as well.
The outcome is what you can see today, it exists mostly because it has to exist, but it doesn't work.
The staff don't know about the benefits, don't have any training how to handle it, and probably just think it's a pain to have even more things to keep track of.
