Hmmm, I wonder if you got lucky or that would work everytime. When I was there last time in Summer 2004 (and before the Sept. 04 Int'l RC rule change so I automatically had RC access) they would ask me everytime for my room number when I walked into the RC for breakfast or appetizers. I guess they don't actually do anything with that info? Sometimes they do however, read on.
Another reason I probably won't stay at GH Beijing ever again (with the exception of FFN accrual periods) is that this property absolutely loves to hassle people (i.e., regarding RC access, room upgrades, non-exhistant Diamond Amenities, wearing shoes near the indoor pool, no tattoos allowed in the pool area, taking a picture of the indoor pool......yes I was hassled over this because they must have thought I was a pervert or bothering people when I snapped a couple pics of the cool pool area at GH Beijing......the guy actually came and told me I couldn't take pictures in the pool area). I really don't expect to get hassled about everything when I go to a high end hotel. The final straw was when the RC staff hassled me when I brought a guy I was working with while in Beijing up to the RC for a drink after work. They stopped us at the RC entrance and asked for my room number and then his and he said he was with me and they said he would have to pay $30 to come into the RC. I said "Hello, he's with me" but they said if he's not a registered guest in my room he'd have to pay. ...?!?!?!!? I'm here on business by myself. If I'm paying for a room, does it matter if my wife is with me or some other person is with me in the RC? Anyways, we had to go back downstairs for something else so we took off right then and while we were downstairs I quickly regsitered him to my room at the front desk. We went back up and walked inside and sat down and had a couple drinks and appetizers. As we were walking out 30 minutes later, the same witch (with a capital B) came back up to us with a bill for $30. I said "No, he's my guest" and she says "NO HE IS NOT, you need to pay $30". I told her to go look it up in her computer, that yes he was a registered guest in my room. She looked it up and boy was I satisfied when I saw that look of embarrassment on her face and she said "Ok, no charge for you". But come on, I really don't need this kind of hassle at a supposedly nice hotel. Why do they need to give us (especially supposedly "valued" Diamond Members) such a hard time. Oh well, I hope it's working for you GH Beijing. I'll wave to you from my room at St. Regis next month!!! Hopefully they'll appreciate my $$$$ more than GH Beijing will.
