Not sure about the accuracy of rest of this "report", but this part
The cuts are part of Northwest's plan to be a better airline. Those plans also include a new airplane, the Airbus A-330.
Northwest ordered eight of the planes, used primarily in flights to Amsterdam.
is completely uninformative and uninformed.
As of the most recent quarterly SEC report filed for info through last June, NW
possessed and owned SEVENTEEN A-330s, and had firm orders for FIFTEEN more. This information takes about 60 seconds to find online.
We know NW has announced it wants to cut about 15% of its ASMs. We know it has court permission to renegotiate and if necessary reject leases on a couple hundred aircraft. We know it is reducing its flight attendant rosters accordingly.
This fluff report adds nothing beyond particular destination trivia to what we already know.
Lord knows what this reporter would say if he ever found out NW was
still flying 35 year old DC9s!
MikeMpls, I believe that you are correct that the specific reductions are mostly regular winter downsizing. The rest of it's just sensationalized filler.
Typical TV pablum IMO.
