There is nothing healthy about the restaurant -- Norma's. Their food is big, sweet and over-the-top. It's delicious, and very popular (so make reservations), but don't go for health food. Le Parker Meridien also is home to one of NYC's best hamburgers -- at The Burger Joint. Although it's right off the lobby, it's easy to miss, so make sure to ask if you can't find it.
If any side is locked, it would be the 57th Street side. Although the hotel's address is 57th Street, the 56th Street entrance is the "main" entrance.
In Fall 2002 and Fall 2003 when I was going there -- not to eat generally --, they were locking the doors on 56th street. Maybe that was based on what was going on at the time, but the entrance on 56th was closed off at night for those days.
Health-oriented crowds don't always eat healthy -- just observe the eating.
