Funnily a year - two back I would've said exactly the same thing. But nowadays considering the erosion of economy class cabin service on pretty much all of the competing airlines on intra-European routes AY is actually a really viable option. You still get hot meals for most European flights, cold meals for the rest, a sandwich for shorthaul (Nordics/Baltics) flights and free drinks. This is a lot more what the major competitor, SK offers nowadays (which is nothing) in cheap eco.

Never flown AY long haul so I won't comment there.
