Thanks for all your help... it seems more promising than I thought! I had been confused by the bmi website - using their calculator and selecting Singapore Airlines as the partner airline and LHR-SIN as the route, says:
first class 0
business class 13522
upgraded economy 10141
full economy 6761
other economy 0
web only 0
If you are travelling with bmi, after selecting your route you must check the class and route you are travelling in is valid for earning miles. The miles values shown relate to the type of cabin that you are travelling in and the class of the ticket that you have purchased.
It is not possible to earn miles with bmi and our partner airlines in all booking classes. If any column within the above table shows 0, this means that the airline in question doesn't offer miles in that particular cabin or class.
The link in that text, which lists longhaul W as 1x mileage, appears to be for bmi flights (only).
Hence my doubt and my original post!
That said, seeing as SQ definitely operate a first class cabin on LHR-SIN, the bmi website would appear to be talking rubbish!
