Something that wasn't meant to be funny, but was:
I was on a flight that aborted the takeoff on the runway. The pilot said, "When we reached about 60MPH, an oil pressure indicator came on. We could not take off in that configuration, so we aborted the takeoff."
I was on one of those... ca. 1982 OMA->DSM->EWR(maybe lga... don't recall)... we taxied back & tried again... aborted again & sat on the aircraft while UA drove a mechanic from Des Moines to Omaha to repair the engine. Blamed an oil filter (said the bypass kicked in), repaired the engine... we then taxied to an inactive runway with all passengers & the mechanic & the cowl off the engine... did a full-power run-up to check the engine... went back to the gate, got the cowl replaced & left... 5 hours late. One of the FAs told us that they rotated aircraft due for maint onto this run & took them out of service at the end. Don't remember all the exact language... and it wasn't funny at the time... is now. Oh, and one passenger spent hours complaining that he could have just kept his rental car and driven to Des Moines. I believe he was the only one going from OMA->DSM.
